Special Communications Organization (SCO)-Pakistan- develops, operates and maintains telecom services in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. Over the period of time, SCO has developed massive IT & telecom infrastructure including laying of over 2500 kilometer Optical Fiber Cable network across the entire length and breadth of the area.
Currently, SCO is the largest telecom network / service provider in AJK and Gilgit Baltistan region. SCO is providing telecom services to both public and private sector.
In a recent development , SCO and the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (UAJ&K) have partnered to jointly establish the first AJ&K Software Technology Park and Incubation Center at UAJ&K, Muzaffarabad. Earlier the SCO opened the first Gilgit-Baltistan Software Technology Park. SCO, in an announcement said that the organisation was proud to establish the first ever Software Technology Park in the region which will not only boost the technological potential of the region but it will also create infinite possibilities for local population to learn, earn and become a part of international business practices.
As part of the cooperation, UAJ&K will provide physical space, while SCO will manage funding for the project. SCO will also provide state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities along with Optical Fiberboard for fast internet connectivity. Through the Software Technology Park, Computer and IT graduates will have the opportunity to promote their expertise in the field of software development and connect with the global market. Similarly, the Incubation Center will enable students to excel in entrepreneurship, innovation, and research. This cooperation will be a great initiative for the development of the AJ&K region, and will encourage youth to be more innovative and creative in the IT field.
Recently, SCO also established the first-ever software technology park of Gilgit, which was inaugurated by the Chief of Army Staff at Konodas, Gilgit. These initiatives are designed to contribute to the development of the two regions.
Sector Commander Special Communications Organization (SCO) has said that Gilgit-Baltistan has been connected through China-Pakistan Fibre Optic Project.Addressing a press conference in Gilgit, he had said 22 mobile towers were made functional during last two months. He said work on 97 towers was in progress.Sector Commander has said that fiber to home project will help in improving the internet connectivity in big cities.
This has been termed as historic moment for the people of Gilgit Baltistan. SCO is also proud to establish the first ever Software Technology Park in GB.
