SDPI to hold Sustainable Development Conference

Islamabad (Insight on Kashmir News )The Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) will hold a conference on sustainable development in Islamabad. The development organisation has announced that overarching theme of this year’s Conference is Sustainable Development in the Times of COVID-19.

The Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) provides the global sustainable development community with representation from Pakistan as well as South Asia as a whole.

Sustainable Development is one of the major focus areas of UN

Sustainable development is one of the major focus areas of the United Nations. The concept of sustainable development was first mentioned in1987 Bruntland Commission Report. It says that sustainable development should meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations.

Four elements of Sustainable Development

Sustainable development primarily targets four elements including society, environment, culture and economy. Prosperity and continuous growth should be the natural outcomes of sustainable development. The experts on sustainable development recommend that sustainability should be witnessed in a prosperous society, where people and communities should rely on an healthy environment. The sustainability comes through provision of safe and sustainable production.

UN is way off track on sustainable development goals, Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera reported in September 2020 that five years have passed since United Nations committed to a set of targets meant to improve the lives of people around the world. But the plan to achieve the sustainable development goals by 2030 is way off track. And the coronavirus pandemic has not helped.
