A pre-budget webinar was organized by Kashmir Institute of Economics, Azad Jammu and Kashmir University on May 18, 2021.
The program was arranged in collaboration with UNDP’s SDG Support Unit. The title of the program ‘Understanding the Budgeting Making Process’.
The chief guest in the event was Mr. Zahid Amin, Chairman, Prime Minister’s Inspection and Implementation Commission.
The speakers included Ms. Wajiha Khan from UNDP’s SDG Support Unit, Mr. Ahmed Waseem Qureshi, Chief Rural Development, AJK and Dr. Mahmood Khalid from Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, Islamabad.
Other participants included senior government officials of the Azad Kashmir Government, faculty members and students of various universities and members of civil society.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Atiq-ur-Rehman, Director, Kashmir Institute of Economics emphasized the need for cooperation between the university and policy makers.
Other speakers gave an in-depth briefing on the budget preparation process, while Ms. Wajiha Khan, UNDP Representative, assured full cooperation from UNDP in achieving the development goals.
The Chief Guest Mr. Zahid Amin in his address appreciated the efforts of the organizers and said that the participation of the university in the policy making of the government is the need of time. He stressed that the unemployment rate in Azad Kashmir is very high and consultation by universities is very important to deal with it.
He also pledged to take the suggestions received from universities to the competent forum.
At the end of the program, the Director Kashmir Institute of Economics paid a vote of thanks to all the participants.
This program was the first in a series of webinars. The Kashmir Institute of Economics intends to hold several such programs.
